Pauline Ferrand-Prevot powers to XCO world title

INEOS Grenadiers (United Kingdom) - Press Release: Pauline Ferrand-Prévot put in a dominating performance to win the women’s cross country Olympic mountain bike world title for a fifth time.

Ferrand-Prévot recovered from a bad start to pace her way through the field and win put in a spectacular display to win her 12th world title in all disciplines.

The French rider powered through the field in the first lap to catch her compatriot Loana Lecomte by the start of the second, overtaking her and never looking back.

As the race progressed, Ferrand-Prévot maintained her own pace, extending her advantage with each lap by using the long climbs to her advantage.

She crossed the line over a minute ahead of Lecomte, with Puck Pieterse finishing third for the Netherlands.

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot Reaction:

"I am very happy. It was a super tough race, and I didn't have a good start. I wanted to keep my own pace throughout the race, go full gas on the uphill and trying to recover in the downhill so it worked perfectly.

I am very proud of myself, I didn't get emotional after having a bad start and I stuck to my plan Sometimes you start to overthink, but I said ‘ok I have one mission today and I have to reach it.”

"When I came last Saturday, I didn’t feel good about the course, I initially didn't think it was for me. But over the week we worked at it and took it day-by-day. Today I felt ok, not super, but I was on a mission to go full gas and I enjoyed the end result!"
